Woah, Twilight Eclipse Edit Flashback!

According to Hollywood Insider, Eclipse editor Art Jones has been replaced by Twilight editor Nancy Richardson:

Summit Entertainment... confirmed this morning that it has replaced Eclipse editor Art Jones with Nancy Richardson, the editor of Catherine Hardwicke’s original Twilight film.
The studio is not placing blame on Jones, who previously worked with Eclipse director David Slade on his horror film 30 Days of Night as well as Slade’s Ellen Page-starrer Hard Candy. They do believe, however, that Slade’s material – which they call “very good” – needed a stronger edit.
The studio has more confidence in Richardson, who they say understands the emotion of the characters and is an ace at balancing action with the other elements of the film.

Slightly concerning in that this could mean Summit aren't liking how the movie's shaping up and are going to desperate measures quite late on - maybe why we've not seen a trailer yet?!

However, I'm curious to get a feel (however tenuous) for how Twilight could've been given the cash, ya know?

Hmmm...

P.s. I have this poster (in 3d!) in my room even though I'm in my non-early-twenties :)

  1. Wow. I kind of feel offended for Jones.

  2. I don't feel sorry for him. If he and Slade had done a good enough job, he wouldn't have been fired. None of the previous editors were fired. I just want Eclipse to be a great movie. I don't care what steps have to be taken to accomplish that. I've been worried about Slade and what he would bring to table since Day 1. Jones has worked with Slade on his two previous films.

  3. I became concerned when Slade announced that the
first cut was going to Summit and then shortly
thereafter he twittered that he was doing a recut
and adding more Edward. Apparently too much
action and not enough loving. We need the loving
and the guy club was playing with the action.
I don't feel bad for anyone artistic differences
    happen.

  5. Way to go Summit... If it means more Edward, that's the way it should be.

  6. I'm sure or at least hoping it will be fine!! The script was written well in comparison to the other ones, but it will come down to the director and editing.
There should be a good deal of action surrounded and intertwined entirely about the story of Bella, Edward and Jacob.
This is a great book and hope Slade keeps the feeling of the love story with challenges alive and making it come across the screen.

  7. While I think NM was far superior to TWILIGHT, I attribute it to the director’s work and footage, not the work of the editor. The editor can only do so much with what they have. Obviously TWILIGHT needed MAJOR work, and NM probably less. And that Summit is replacing the editor, one who has worked with Slade on horror films, should encourage us in that they are aiming for more than just a horror angle to ECLIPSE. I agree with an earlier post here, I need more romance in ECLIPSE. We need to understand just what is so amazing about E&B’s love that they’re willing to endure so much for each other. I’m optimistic.

  8. HEY...Kellan said it himself here, and I think this is EXACTLY why Summit is replacing the editor: "...but there’s a lot of action [this time around]. A lot more than the love story.” ENOUGH SAID.

  9. I freaked out earlier about this. Im just afraid of the way the editor on Twilight took a blunt axe to it. They totally messed it up. So I'm concerned if they bring this editor back. Hmm.

  10. I knew there was some problem when we didn't get DS's promised New
Years gift. I think the editing of Twilight was awful and hope to god she
can work with what was shot... But she can't make a great movie out
of a bunch of $&!?. Wonder if it is so bad that they will call people
back for reshoots. Scared that Summit has gone on the record as saying
    it is "good".

  11. Summit need to understand this isn't about the action (OK a little) but about the gooy-ooy love story!

Us girls love it and want it (just not uber cheesy).
What's the point of making a film guys can see too?
There are enough of us girls for them to rub their dirty hands in money anyway!

  12. I hope they got it right by now. We want the love story, the rest is for the background. If we have the lovestory done beautifuly we will shaw them the money. End of story. Ecsipse is my favourite book I wish they didn't f..it up.

  15. This news does not bode well...

  16. ok, I am feeling the same way. The way Twilight was edited scares me that this movie could fall backwards and not follow the beauty of New Moon. I am concerned that they have kept all the footage under wraps and now this? Maybe its an every other film thing..Twilght,ok New Moon, great, Eclipse,ok Breaking Dawn, great hopefully!!!!!

  17. i guess everyone else is as worried as i am about the movie. The fighting had such a small part in the book, im hoping it does in the movie to.

  18. I think that given David Slades past work, he probably focused heavily on the fighting. Its hard for me to wrap my brain around why this man was chosen for Eclipse? I am praying they can get all this together before the years end. I started to worry when the actors in the film knew nothing about the release. Usually by now they have at least seen a trailer or a rough cut. But to have the actors in the dark as well....I hope this isn't the beginning of the end

  19. Oh boy!! You all have it right..I am worried too. If this movie does not do well, I am afraid we wont get a Breaking Dawn!!!!

  20. Twilight had some of the worst editing I've ever seen. If that chick is better than the guy they just fired...? Wow. Just...wow.
