Well...after listening to both parts twice, okay three times, I can honestly say that I love the score! It is so perfect for the feel of the movie. As I was hearing each piece I could perfectly place it to the part of the book in my head that it went with. I was tearing up with "Marry Me Bella". I mean at least I could totally hear the longing in the music (and hear Edwards longing for Bella) and it was beautiful...one more reason to say I LOVE YOU CHRIS WEITZ!!!!
This is totally old school. I feel like it could go with an old Hitchcock movie. I liked Twilight's score, but I love this one.
As a film score junkie I have a few specifics I really need in a good score. This fits the tone of the film and I'm sure will compliment the visuals nicely ...but the score on its own lacks some variety. Carter Burwell took us back and forth, between love and danger, though he leaned a little more on the danger side, with guitars and heavy beats, but it fit that there was a danger to Bella and Edward getting involved. I think this score is BEAUTIFUL, but in an at home listen it will make a nice background music while I wash the dishes rather than make me NEED to see the movie right then and there. So the movie makes me want to hear the score, but the score doesn't neccesarily make me want to see the movie which I think is a nice feature of film scores, how they work hand in hand with the film. I'll also add though that Carter got my adrenile pumping, but Alexandre makes me want to cry ...both are good things (and I DEFINITLY cried while reading New Moon).I also hoped based on Alexandre's past scores that he would be inspired to feature the piano more. Though these are clips, so it could be in there more than we're hearing now. (I don't always get that into a mellow horn section.)ps. My fav soundtrack - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
One last comment... I appreciate how Alexandre's tracks typically work on their own. As in the songs don't sound like brief clips, but each track is a full song, unlike how sometimes scores (including Twilight) can get a bit clippy feeling. So... have I chosen the New Moon or Twilight Score? Hm, I'm still leaning toward Twilight, but this is still lovely, maybe just a little too relaxing for me as scores go, but quite fantastic just as a cd I will put on repeat while I daydream....sorry I rambled, scores are to me like Robert taking a jawsome photo to most of you. ;-)
I like what I've heard so far. This music elicits emotions even without the images. This is more what I'd hoped the score would have been for "Twilight"; it's more romantic and lyrical.
the score preview sounds beautiful. it's hard not to tear up when listening to "edward leaves". as for how it compares to twilight.....i wont have an answer until we hear it in the movie. twilight's score was very unique.
on an added note....i love how the score starts with "new moon" and ends with "full moon"
anything would be better than the score to Twilight! That was some terrible cheesy stuff.
Thumbs down. It sounds like an old school horror movie. He can't get even slightly more creative than that? There's no central theme either, which is an integral lacking part. It sounds more like the music for Swan Lake or Coppelia than a contemporary film score. Desplat: step away from the full orchestra for five seconds, it might do you good. I hope they get someone better for Eclipse. My vote would go to getting Carter Burwell back...or Danny Elfman.
Wow, Danny Elfman. That could be amazing! I was also thinking along the line of Michael Nielsen, if he ever wanted to go beyond trailer music (he did the "Meet Jacob" Trailer). I thought he just really hit on the Twilight sound and his other trailer music is quite exciting. Now I'm going to daydream about what Danny Elfman would compose.
