So how is it that I'm still in the closet after all this time? Because of shiz like this: My buddy from college got wind of my supposedly *SECRET* blog from a mutual friend, and when we were having a nice dinner out with our husbands, she asks, "So, what is this 'Crack Twilight' vampire thingy you're doing? Isn't that book for 7th graders??"
Then to my deep CHAGRIN, my husband, who had more than a few glasses of wine, proceeds to out me and my juvenile adventures failing at set-stalking in Vancouver and how we went to see 100 Monkeys (who?) and snagged photos with an actor largely only known to Twilight fans (Ashley) in a freaking bathroom last spring (I'm not a freak, I swear!). Having barely even heard of the Twilight Saga, they looked at me like I am on (twi)crack with two heads.
At least he didn't tell them I took photos of Pocket Edward all over Vancouver.
Hmph.

ReplyDeleteAs for Mr. TCA - heck, I understand. A few glasses of wine will have me and many I know telling you are deepest darkest secrets or more likely those of the person sitting next to us. Who knows why it happens - the wine some how just loosens the lips and verbal diarrhea occurs.

How would I get through a work day at a major airline without this and other pithy and humerous blogs. So what if a few flights are delayed because I am hunched over my computer looking for the latest picture of RPatz...KStew..and various Twilight players..I've been to St. Helens..Kalama..Viewpoint Inn and a secret location in the Portland where the real Cullen house is...I apologize for nothing..

ReplyDeleteOh TCA I feel your pain. My FIL outed me and my Pocket E video out to a whole family I didn't know on the 4th of July. I was mortified but the cute thing was that he did it because he thought my video was quite clever and he was proud..awwwww. Right after he outed me one woman turned to her cousin and said "That's cool we have been known to take photos of action figures too." Who knew, freaks are everywhere. I mean that in the most endearing way of course. I say screw 'em you are loved by thousands--so there. ;-)

ReplyDeleteThat is so funny!!! When I was at the airport reading Breaking Dawn, I hid it. I thought I am 32 and people are going to stare at me. I had such a complex. I couldn't even imagine hiding a website. You should come out on a Dirty Little Secret show on Oprah!!!! That would be the the best.
ReplyDeleteI think we are a growing majority out there...meaning the "grown women" who are quite obsessed w/ all things Twilight. In fact, this is the one topic that brings my sisters-in-law and I into a deep, frenzied conversation. And yes, our husbands roll their eyes in unison as we crowd around a computer screen together to watch the newest trailer of New Moon, fogetting about the kids for a brief 3 minutes.
ReplyDeleteMy kids (ages 2 & 6)are the ones who rat me out... at home, I call R-Patz my "boyfriend". So now when they see pics of him at stores (full sized cardboard cutouts, magazine covers, etc...) they both yell to me, very excitedly, "LOOK MOM! YOUR BOYFRIEND!" My husband just shakes his head and walks away. BTW, I am 37. :-)

TCA, I read your blog everyday, please don't let anyone make you stop! I am 36 with 2 kids and at first I felt I had to mention "I am usually a more literary reader" to anyone who found out about my obsession with all things Twilight. But I think Stephenie Meyer explained it best in an interview where she says she "may not be the best writer but she is a great storyteller". She is an awesome storyteller!! I love Edward and he is doing a lot for my hubby's sex life so he no longer complains ;-)

ReplyDeleteOh, I can soooo relate to that :) I'm only venturing out of the closet to defend the beloved saga to somebody who's clearly crossing the lines :))) Otherwise I just lead my quiet "grown up" life in there, with the winter clothes and hats ;)))
ReplyDeleteWe're all in the same boat (age-wise) at least ;) I guess I'm not exactly a closeted Twi-fan because I know one other person my age who is a fan (and other people don't know enough about the series either way to comment on it)... Honestly, YOU GUYS are the people I talk to about Twilight everyday!! You guys rock! And TCA, I've said it before, but this is my fav Twi fan blog. It's the first one I read everyday. And the only one I suggest news to. I always refer to Stephenie's quote where she said, "I never wrote a young adult novel in my life..." She never intended Twilight to be a YA novel. That was the publisher. Other people are really missing out if they don't read it for that reason alone...
ReplyDeleteWell I'm 25 and you know people make fun of me at work because of my obsession and you know what I tell them? I don't care! I know how you feel TCA and everyone here feels the same but because of you I have a place where I can feel at home and I don't have to hide my feelings toward Twilight and I don't feel ashamed of this! This is my safe place! My boyfriend is very supportive thank God for that but still is not easy being a Twilight Fan these days and most of all being more than a teen! If you're 15 it's okay to be obsessed but what about us? We have the same right to be a fan of Twilight and read the books everywhere we want! Thanks to you a lot of people is happy and out of the closet! Keep this thing going because we aren't going anywhere!

I am a 28 yr old married mother of three girls....Alex 9, Sami 3, Bella 6months. I am definately a twihard. My husband chose our youngest's name....of course I did nothing to warn him :) So let me tell you I am out and proud. Even have a TwiMom bumper sticker! I LOVE TWILIGHT!

ReplyDeleteWhen I find a kindred spirit or anyone willing to let me babble on about Twilight I'm like a thirteen year old talking about her current crush. I do that shriek/whisper thing completely with flailing hands and wide eyes :-)
The closer that it gets to Nov. 19th the more I want to change my Facebook status to TEAM JACOB!!!!!!! and scream from the rooftops that I am a complete Twicrack addict. Thanks for supplying my drug, TCA :-)

It is much worse for guys. I'm a 40 year old father of three and I decided I better read the books so that I would know what my 12 year old girl was getting into. Two months later I a read them all 4 times in a row! I keep the ebooks and audio books, Twilight the motion picture and soundtrack and all the trailers (including the Comicon and MTV extended) on my iPhone. Every time the subject comes up the guys at the office make me turn in my "Man Card". (sigh) At least my 12 year old thinks I'm cool! ReplyDeleteTwiCrack Addict - I was laughing so hard when I read your post - this seems to be happening repeatedly to me now. Now I'm working for a RPattz site, so I am REALLY getting it. :) I try to downplay it honestly - I'm 33, and have three kids. I too, am totally embarassed when my husband brings it up. I say we just buy all those people that we run into and act like this, the Twilight book for Christmas.

Oh and I LOVE the shirt! This was actually more of the type of Twilight gear I was hoping for. I can't show up at my kid's school in one of those shirts with all the actors faces on it, I'd get mocked. I like how Subtle it is. sweet!
I too can so relate to all of you! I live in Vancouver, I'm 43 mother of two and my sister (40) is flying in, as I write this, to Vancouver for what she calls a "vacation" but as we all know it's a visit based soley on Twilight and the hopes of running into someone from the cast!
