Edi disappointed that Laurent doesn't have a Sparkle Scene in New Moon

Sure is lookin' sunny in Forks!

I came across this post over at TwiFans where Edi apparently said, at the NJ convention, that his one big regret is that he doesn't get to sparkle ... but, seriously, why doesn't he?

I haven't got my copy of New Moon to hand (because I lent it to convert a friend like any good Twilighter) but I'm pretty sure that when Bella finds the meadow again, it's in sunlight... (<-- Turns out, it's NOT sunny in the book scene...)

Sooo, when Laurent appears, why doesn't he sparkle, dammit?!

- Lorabell ;)

UPDATE: G'morning, everybody! What a weekend of news.

Thanks to the readers who clarified that
the weather was mostly cloudy with a side of meatballs on the day that Laurent and Bella met up in the meadow in New Moon.

No wonder Laurent doesn't have a sparkle scene -- because he doesn't have a big sunny moment, even though it appears in the above movie still that there is a little sunlight. I'm guessing that 'sunnyness' will be gone in post-production once the movie comes out -- because if it's not and Laurent doesn't sparkle, that would be totally lameo!

Thanks,

TwiCrack Addict

P.S. You can read more about how Edi is bummed not to have a sparkle scene at MTV.

  1. Wow! That has never occurred to me! He SHOULD sparkle! BIG BIG mistake if they don't have him sparklin'! Maybe they're not done with all the cgi effects. The cast said the film they saw was a rough cut.

  2. Hmmm I never even thought of that lol. I think it was a sunny day but maybe it wasn't. I need to go back and check now ;)

  4. Was he black in the book? I can't remember, I read it a while ago and lent it to a friend. I was thinking maybe because of his dark skin he doesn't sparkle? I mean he can't exactly be pale either, so maybe you only sparkle if you're pale.

  5. I don't think it was sunny that day. Bella says something like this time the meadow was cloudy. Am I right?

  6. He wasn't black in the book - he had an olive-toned pallor IIRC
Also it said something like 'it was not nearly as beautiful without the sunlight' I think. Could be wrong though?

  7. I don't think it was sunny that day! It was a different season and there were no flowers and everything was brown/dead and drab. Like Bella's mood. The meadow didn't have the same effect it had when Edward brought her there in Twilight. I haven't read the book in awhile, but I'm fairly sure I remember the comment about the dreariness in so many words.

  8. It wasn't sunny at all that day in the book. Bella specifically mentions it.

  9. I don't think it has anything to do with being black. I think it is because they probably don't want to have to use that cheesy CGI sparkle any more than they have to.

  10. Well I can see the sun shinning on him in the pic. Maybe they'll change the overlay color to look cloudy.

  12. Pg.232 It was cloudy, but almost dry-a very niceday, for Forks. Pg.234 The place wasn't nearly as stunning w/out the sunlight, but it was still very beautiful and serene.

  13. Nice work anon 8:27. Anon 8:02, get out of here!

  14. I thought it was because he was dark skinned or because he was evil LMAO

  15. UH! one olive toned in a book description means hes black or darker skinned so anonymous 7:33 grow a brain, and two most like the reason he doesnt sparkle is because they didnt have time to add in the complex cgi there is in making him sparkle, i mean they released this trailer only like 2 weeks after they finished filming, its not like they had a lot of time to add cgi in. so lets not be racist and say its cause he's black you know no director/produce would be that judgmental.

  16. HE DOESN'T SPARKLE BECUASE THE F**ING SUN WASN'T OUT! SO STOP ARGUING ABOUT SKIN COLOR!

LORABELL LOOK AT THE SH*TSTORM U STARTED! READ THE BOOKS MORE CAREFULLY WHY DON'T YOU!

  17. An "olive skinned" description does NOT mean the person is "black or darker skinned", Anon 11:02!!!

So lay off of Anon 7:33- their post was NOT racist. Wow this site is going to pot, but quick.

  18. Please folks calm down. There's no shit storm - just some questions, varying viewpoints, and some misunderstandings. It was an honest question - we are fans but we are also human so we can't be expected to remember every single detail of each book.

Why Laurent doesn't sparkle in the movie regardless of how it looked in the trailer or at the screening that Edi saw is creative license of the production team.

Now I wish he did sparkle and had wind chimes playing in the background so I could crack up like I did when it happened in "Twilight." To this day it makes me laugh even though I know it is going to happen.

  19. He doesn't sparkle. So he doesn't sparkle. I love Laurent. Why shouldest it matter? It's not because he's black. I think anon pg. 232 said it was cloudy is why he doesn't sparkle. Read the book. She/he is right.

  20. About a previous post, Do you know Argentina? or argentinian girls? so shut the fuck up! Luisana is gorgeous! Naturally blond with blue eyes! She have a great body, and she is a respect actress here in Argentina. I wanna see a picture of you, fucking racist!

  21. Seriously guys grow up. This is not the time nor place to be getting into stupid arguments over miscommunication. Olive tone does not necessarily mean black it just means olive toned skin. Like most latin descendants as well as european, such as the polish people and italian people as well. I personally think lorabell brought up a valid point because when I read it, it made me stop and think as well. If you have an issue with lorabell's preferences take it elsewhere I for one do not accept intolerance. If you like this site then read it, but do not come here to put anyone else down and act like children it reflects poorly on your character. Please keep this a "safe" place to come and enjoy the wonderful world SMeyer has created, because I hate to see that a site I enjoy very, very much may be less enjoyable now to other people's intolerance. For the record I think KStew is hot too lorabell...lol. For the record, the fact that you are all anon says that you may not want to be held accountable for acting childish so don't do it!

  22. I think that's a great question lorrabell, I hadn't considered it, even when Edi mentioned he wished he had sparkled!
ah as already said in the book the meadow is cloudy and sunless that day hence no sparkle :o)
But the trailer does show Laurent and Bella in a sunny place.... so crossing fingers Edi gets to realise his dream of seeing his character sparkle.lol and seriously hope the sparkles are not so dodgy as in Twilight coz that was LAME!!

  23. I get why he doesn't sparkle in the book, but in the trailer, the meadow does seem sunny. Hmmm... I'm intrigued.

And I really don't get what happened with people's comments here, so I'll just ignore them for lack of civility and intellectuality.

  24. ^ I doesn't seem sunny in the trailer either, it's not dark when it's cloudy people. You can clearly see there is no sunshine even in the trailer.

  25. As you said its not black that we are always look in to it.

  26. I watched the trailer again. The meadow isn't sunny... so no sparkling Laurent. :(

  27. Hey guys,

It's TwiCrack Addict here. Just saw all of the comments here.

Sorry for the confusion / controversy we may have kicked up with our random musings.

The story was really around how Edi Gathegi is bummed that he doesn't have a scene where he sparkles, and I think that there was some confusion around the following:

    1) Was there any Sun in the Laurent/Bella meadow showdown in the book? --> turns out, not really...

    2) Will there be sunlight in the movie scene btw. Bella and Laurent, since the pics that we've seen so far seem a bit sunny? --> well, my guess is no.

As @TJB said, this was never about creating controversy, but about how closely the movie mirrors the book. Moreover, we never meant to suggest anything about race or skin color in this equation, and it's quite surprising to me that it even came up...

Looks like we still need to wait and see what the final cut of this scene looks like!

  28. Yowza peeps, I did not expect such a tangent!

I just thought it ironic that Edi was sad he didn't get to sparkle but the trailer looked sunny-ish.

Since I couldn't remember exactly what the books said about the weather in this scene (even though I've read the series more times than I can remember at this point) I wondered whether it'd be "fixed" for the movie.

That is the last time I post something quizzical before bed, lol ;)

P.s. Negativity is never called for - especially Anonymous 11.26 who "shouted" in caps.
