MTV's TayStew Interview: Insights into key New Moon scenes

GAH! (p.s. I'm Team Edward)

MTV has a new interview with Kristen and Taylor up, where they talk about their characters, the scenes that they're eager for fans to see, and what parts were toughest to film. Here is an excerpt:

MTV: He is very huggable. Tell us about one scene that you read either in Stephenie Meyer's book or in Melissa Rosenberg's screenplay that you were like, "Man, that's going to be tough to pull off," and tell us how you were able to figure it out.

Stewart: "New Moon" is riddled with all of that. I think it's the one book in the series that I was intimidated by — in a good way. That's the best feeling to start a movie with. But probably, my favorite line in the book is when I have to say to [Jacob], "It's him; it's always been him!" Like, I have to say that. Yeah, it killed me, it killed me.

MTV: It was a tough day to shoot?

Stewart: Yeah, and just like everything in our movie, it's such a heightened version of reality. It's like, people don't just break up [in the "Twilight" films] — they break up and it literally kills you. It's not like you just say, "Oh, I'm really depressed and crying." Everything is supposed to be a fantasy version of that. So I always had a really hard time figuring out, "Am I doing enough? Do I look like I'm going to die?"

MTV: Yeah, it would be tough to be the most dramatic person in the world, but without being cheesy. And Taylor?

Lautner: ["New Moon"] is very complicated. There's a lot of heartbreak, there's a lot of things going on. Edward leaves at the beginning, she goes into this depression, I come to try and bring her out of it. Then I go through my own issues, and then she leaves me. It's all over the place, and there's a lot going on, and there's many of those scenes that you described.

MTV: Which was your favorite to shoot?

Lautner: My favorite one was — well, we call it the breakup scene — but it's the scene right after she sees me shirtless and I've cut off my hair, all different for the first time. I have to tell her that we can't be friends anymore.

Stewart: He attempts to break up with me — but it doesn't work out.

Thanks, Gabi!

  1. (my favorite line in the book is when I have to say to [Jacob], "It's him; it's always been him!")

    *sigh*
I THINK (maybe) this line of Bella's is RIGHT after my VERY FAVORITE LINE of New Moon - - the one that gutted me, when Jacob says to Bella, simply, "It's the other one, isn't it?"

(INCIDENTALLY, I'm 99% sure they changed this line to something far less impactful, like, "It's him, isn't it? I can tell." Yeah, a real gut kick, Melissa. FAIL!)

Love this article, though - - great stuff! :)

  5. I really and honestly can't understand how can anyone who has read the books be Team Jacob..I don't even understand how a Team Jacob even exists..I really like Jacob as a character in the book, I have laughed with his really happy spirit so many times..but I don't understand, how people who have read the book from Bella's prespective, don't understand the deep and utterly unbreakable and undeniable love between Bella and Edward..I mean yeah sure Jake is fun and yeah Bella would be considered happy with him, but nothing can be trully compared to the feeling that she describes having when she is with Edward..how can you not see this?
I feel bad for Jake, for having to go though all of this, because he trully didn't choose having to hear these lines, like "It's always been him", but come on, he already knew this..he knew that if Edward was in the picture, there would be no question as to who Bella would choose..

  6. Yay maria! :) I completely agree. I've always thought "what's this team Jacob you speak of" when someone brings it up. And I wanted to burn all of the Breaking Dawn books when he imprinted of Nessie. -I'll never forgive Stephanie Myer for that one :P

  7. JennJam- I hope they didn't change certain lines that do pack a punch (no pun intended)!!
They really don't need to change much of the little details or the story- it's written so well(even if it wasn't- the story is what we all love) so don't piss us off by changing the core of the freakin story!!

  8. As bad as I feel for Jacob throughout all of the books, I have to say, Im team Edward 100%! So those lines make me smile. No shame, I know.

YES! Maria, you are my hero!!!! I agree. Jacob to me is like your bestest buddy. Fun, hillarious, and unapologetically rude. I even feel very sorry for him in New Moon. But to exclaim that your a team Jacober, just because you think Edward is too controlling....come on, open your eyes! Jake in Eclipse is the biggest manipulator after that. Bella goes out of her way to see Jake cause he's in "pain" (DRY HEAVING AS WE SPEAK) but she hurts Edward by stomping all over his feelings because she's so naive and insecure. Jacob knows this. Why would anyone want to be with someone like that? Atleast Edward tries over and over agian to make her see him for what he is. Like Maria said, they share the real love. He left her to protect her. Jake takes advantage of that pain and twists it in Eclipse to meet his needs. Id think twice team Jacob.

  11. Did anyone notice that TL didn't call situation
with Bella, Edward and Jacob a triangle
this time. It really isn't. Think they had
    some heat for that.
Like in the promo where he says I know what
he did and I'll never do that (paraphrased)
then he does it practically every time
    they are together.
