Edward Cullen is Mommy Porn

Vicki Iovine of the Huffington Post has a funny article about what women are really fantasizing about in the midst of recent tales of wussy, cheating men:
I have joined millions of tween and teenaged girls as a devotee of the "Twilight" books. I'm not the first mid-life mom to discover the love story of a clumsy high school girl and a vampire; my girlfriend Cheryl was the first of my peers to recommend them. My 15 year-old daughter made fun of my secret interest in the series, but ended up giving me the first book on audio disc for my car. The plan was that we'd listen together while she practiced her driving under my supervision. But I started sneaking listening sessions when I was driving around town alone, and I was up to disc 6 before I had to confess to her that I was hooked.

I am shocked by this and a little disturbed by this inconsistency in my feminist politics and here's why: These books portray the archetypal barely-civilized man lusting, actually hungering, for a frail and naïve woman. She loves him because he's physically superior--tall, broad-shouldered, the whole Greek god thing, he knows her in a deep way that the rest of the superficial world has overlooked, and best of all, he can beat up anybody who messes with her. I am capable of some introspection and I, like you, can see that for a traditionally non-violent person who believes that a woman stands alone as a force to be reckoned with, there's an obvious disconnect here. Yeah, but I'm in a mood.
Are you a little shocked and disturbed too? :-) Read the rest of the article here.

  3. I am mother of two children and addicted to the saga! I loved the love story. Rarely in this age a woman can get a man all the protection and the stereotype is that all of Prince Charming in our childhood dream moment.I recalls in my ages teens with Twigligth!.Kisses from Argentine!

  4. The bummer is that Rob says he doesnt like kids, I saw him say it in a youtube video. I was a bit bummed as I love kids. But I cant blame him, he's handsome, and can date any girl he wants, at 23 kids are sometimes repulsive to young men and girls. But my fantasy stock in him dropped when he said that since I love a man who can make a child laugh.

  8. You know what? I have three sons that are 3, 6, and 8. Im freaking exauhsted, pissed half the time at the crap that they do to the house, not to mention their picking slowly at my sanity! Im 31 years old but physically feel like Im 60! I used to love children. Hell I even worked at a daycare as an energetic teen. But now that I have my own, I have one question for my younger self... WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING? Rob may not like children because he may have run into my family. Oi!

As weird as it sounds the Twilight series and movie have brought back that sense of joy from my pheramone riddled years. It woke me up and slapped me across the face, reminding me what it felt like to be in-love. And it caused me to realize that women dont have many things that we can latch onto, somthing we can call our own. That is until Rob Pattinson graced us with his presence in the Twilight world, causing a hormonal ripple effect across the world! Women of all ages, from tweens to Mom's like me, fell head over heels in love with a vampire for a reason. As much as we say we love our femenisim, if a man as beautiful as Robward went out of his way to protect me, I too would let him lead me around by the hand, no questions asked.

  9. Kerri Im a 21 yr old from India. I dnt have any marriage plans for next 4 yrs. Bt when I get married I wud want to marry someone who makes me feel like a princess, Someone who's loving, caring and protective without being overtly so.

Why is it so difficult to find such men, men who would let us enjoy the beauty of life without ruining it? My present boyfriend loves me but all the love evaporates when I do something he doesnt want me to. I mean do men like Edward exist only in books.....

Rob is handsome. His beauty makes my life beautiful. So why shudnt I love him?

I confess as much as I love my freedom and independence, I wud still want a guy like Edward to love me, to care for me and protect me. There's nothing more Romantic and safe than a man's arms around you.

  10. I think that what women find attractive about Edward Cullen is not the "He-man" stuff as much as the way he loves Bella. In a world of divorces (50% of marriages), infidelity, and real life, he offers undying passionate love with a guarantee of committment and no cheating - EVER! What's not to like?

  11. Sorry, this photo is a fake!

Please look a bit more closely at Rob's upper left arm (which is a white square like his right patch of upper arm - and then at the elbow and hand which hold the baby. This elbow is three times larger than the rather slim arms, the maker of this picture did a very bad jobl

  12. Kerri- I totally agree with you. "If a man as beautiful as Edward/Robert went out of his way to protect me, I too would let me lead me by the hand, no questions asked"

Also, I think your life sounds exactly like mine. I'm 31 with a 6,3,2 year old. Ahhh. Edward take me away- forget Calgon!

  16. I a hundred percent agree with kuchi. I love not having to worry about a man cheating on me, because I don't have one. But if I had an "Edward Cullen" in my life, a man who you can trust to love you and only you forver, and to protect you...then hell I wouldn't mind having them here with me. But, since I am yet to find a guy who actually cares for one person I'm stuck manless for now.

I also agree the photo looks great. You can totally see it's a fake, but it's too pretty for me to care.

  17. Great fake photo!! I'm sorry for all you mom's that are losing your insanity and a little of yourselves. It's the hardest job in the world.. I am single-divorced and do not have any children, I have always wanted children. But now that I am older and my friends all have them... re-thinking it!! I ask myself why do I want children?? Can't really come up with good answer, so for now it's off the table- don't have anyone to have a child with anyway. So if someone like Eddie Cullen came along I would be so easy...:) I've done the I'm a person too thing and been cheated on- done the cheatin- learned from the life's lessons- So would totally luv being taking care without a thought of my own!! ( of course that would never happen, cuz I'm too opinionated-LOL).
