Catherine Hardwicke Tackles Modern Day Hamlet

Hollywood Reporter details Catherine's next movie project, Shakespeare's "Hamlet":
"Twilight" and "thirteen" director Catherine Hardwicke is attached to direct, with Emile Hirsch, who helped conceive the idea, attached to star as the title character.

Ron Nyswaner, best known for penning Oscar winner "Philadelphia," will write the script.

"Milk" producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen will produce via their Jinks/Cohen banner.

The company said it is awaiting a finished script in the coming months and hopes to go into production not long after.

The new "Hamlet" will center on similar themes as the original play but will be set in contemporary America. In the new version, a young man must decide whether to kill his uncle to avenge the death of his father.

Jinks and Cohen said their "goal is to present the story as a suspense thriller. We want to make it exciting and accessible for an audience today."

  1. WHAT?!!? Not sure about this one- Hamlet has been done a few times- might be an interesting spin, but not sure if you should mess with Shakespeare.

  2. Ooo I love modern day spins on Shakespeare. Shakespeare was a genius. I love how his stories are so completely timeless. Hooray for Catherine!

  3. Is this her house? It's cute!

  4. Wow.....Nikki has really grown into her looks over the years....she looks like such a kid in the photo...

  5. what do you wanna bet Nikki Reed will be in it? Thats the only reason she got in Twilight, since C Hardwicke was directing.

  6. Interesting how emile hirsh was both the onscreen love interest for kristen stewart AND nikki reed.
