David Slade is Not a TwiCrack Addict (Yet)

/Film reports that David Slade, Eclipse directer, deleted his Twitter account, potentially to hide an 'amusing' little attack he launched on the Twilight franchise. While David's Twitter is now gone, /Film shares an mp3 recording of an interview where David shared the following:

…and so yesterday we were trying to find a movie to see and we’d seen all the good ones, you know, and there was nothing really coming out this weekend that we really fancied at all and having directed a vampire film and really gone for something completely different to the kind of romantic, you know, repressed hormone teen vampire movie we really weren’t interested in seeing Twilight but a lot of people said lets go so I wrote -

Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.”

[That’s like] a poem in a way [...] at this point excites me even though people think I’m a really violent and unpleasant person I actually do have this romantic violent side to me. Maybe I should have seen Twilight.

Listen to the clip for yourself here, and see other discussion at Twilight Lexicon.

Hmm. :-/

  1. This is both surprising and disturbing.

I'm "sure" (??) Summit had a 'good' reason for hiring him to direct 'Eclipse,' but it sure would be nice of them to REVEAL IT TO US QUICKLY before they have a huge (and unfavorable PR-incident) revolt on their hands.

I hate smug directors. How must this make the CAST feel? You know, the ones he has to WORK WITH NOW??!!

Is it too late to get Bayona?????

  2. p.s. Even if we can 'forgive' the comments themselves, how do we RESPECT this man for seeing the PAYCHECK the series is destined to continue bringing in . . and suddenly he's willing to be part of it??

All he sees are DOLLAR SIGNS.
He wants on the gravy train - - selling himself out in the meantime, b/c obviously Twilight is so far beneath him . . .

The more I think about this, the more UNHAPPY I am.

  3. Let's hope fan reaction to this will make the 75,000 name petition against Rob (gasp! how did that EVER happen?!) appear to be as tiny as Slade's, well, "you know," must be.

  4. I'm ready to sign that petition!

  5. but the thing is they wouldn't have hired him as the director if he was gonna eff it up, right?
obviously he has some good intentions on eclipse and *hopefully* he wont disappoint us twihards. i guess we'll just have to wait and see

  6. That is just a weird comment for him to have made. I suppose we just never know where our futures are going to take us. It was before he saw the movie so I guess we can forgive him that-maybe he was just going off of all the tweenie hype. I rented 30 days of Night to scope him out and it is actually quite romantic, when you get down to it. It was an excellent movie-I just never got around to seeing it in the theater (I actually kept my rental and bought it). In the extras on the DVD he is portrayed as personable, wacky (in a good way!) and very serious about his art. Maybe he is just what Eclipse will need!

  7. my twilight peeps...you can not hold this thing against him, you know how it is...everything that you may have ever said EVER is under the microscope once your in Twilight-verse. I mean we secretly love every smidge of fodder, but honestly I have to take all of this, including the good juicy bits of news, with a grain of salt until all is said and done. IMHO if you really dig Twilight and respect everyone involved in bringing something new to a story that is so freakin awesome, then you will be able to see that all of this is just nonsense to get us fired up in a controversy tornado.

    *steps off soap box*

btw, I'm finally gonna bow down to "twitter" (ew)casue Michel Sheen is just adorable with his posts! Anyone see that Underworld was on cable the other night??...OMG New Moon is gonna ROCK my SOX!!!!

  8. And this is the guy who's directing Eclipse???...Shame shame shame...I so agree with Juju said. I soooo want Catherine back...Catherine should have directed all four movies. Catherine can direct pretty much everything, every type of movie in my book.

  10. I'm hoping that this was (somehow)taken out of context---maybe he is being impersonated? Maybe he just likes to yank people's chain? I really don't care as long as he doesn't pull this whole too-cool-for-school routine on us. He better knock Eclipse out of the park or he loses a huge audience and following for his future movies.

Eclipse is my favorite book of the Saga (this week) and I might not survive it if the movie blows.

  11. This "nonsense" came right out of the horse's mouth . . . who needs a tornado when he apparently IS one? :)

    Or more like :(

  12. Yeah that was a little weird to say. But I'm not ready to write him off yet, so early in the game. Sure, he's sees dollar signs, but hey everyone in the industry does...that's just the ugly truth. Judging from his prior work, I think he can capture action, no doubt, not so sure if he can do the same with the heart of Eclipse, the love story and love triangle.
