Cool destinations for a Stay-cation

So, I do have a life outside of my TwiCrack addiction. My husband and I are enjoying our "Stay-cation", since plans to go to Vancouver to visit family didn't work out at the last minute. With all this free time, what's a girl to do? Housework? Um, no. Instead of going into TwiCrack withdrawal given the slow news day, I've been discovering a ton of cool webtools, including StumbleUpon, which led me to this cool Jackson Pollock site, where I created this hot mess:

It's so cool! Drag your mouse to create your own hot mess, and click on any button to change the colors.

Also, although I may be disguised as a cubicle-dwelling worker bee, I've always been an artist at heart and love art. I stumbled upon these AMAZING sidewalk chalk drawings created by a talented artist:
Happy New Year! Here's wishing you a wonderful 2009, and another year of really good TwiCrack.

Twilight's Cam Gigandet is all dolled up

Is that a man-purse I spy? This kilt is just many shades of wrong. So wrong. And are those tights or knee-high socks? See more photos here at Just Jared.

A nod to Midnight Sun

I lurve, lurve, lurve Midnight Sun. Even in its unfinished state, it's my favorite of the Twilight Saga. In honor of MS, I've created the design above featuring one of my favorite Edward Cullen Midnight Sun quotes. I've been continuing to experiment with my Cafepress store for fun, and made a new mug:

Twilight Bigger than Dark Knight!

With a $167.3 million overall domestic take as Sunday, per Box Office Mojo, Twilight made more than four times its reported $37 million production budget—the best rate of return on any film in the 2008 Top 10, including The Dark Knight.

We Twi-hards are pretty powerful! Read the full E!Online story here.

"Twi-hard" nominated for word of the year!

How cool is this? According to Canada.com, leading etymologists, grammarians and armchair language-lovers across Canada and the U.S. have been submitting nominations for the American Dialect Society's 19th annual Word of the Year competition, and Twi-hard is one of the nominees!

Among Barrett's nominations are Twi-hard (rhymes with "die hard" and describes a fan of Stephenie Meyer's bestselling Twilight book series), words inspired by the micro-writing website Twitter (Tweet, Twitt, etc.) and frugalista (a person who is frugal but fashionable).

Other front-runners for Word of the Year include "change," "bailout," maverick," "vetting" and various combining forms of "Obama" (Obamanation, Obamamania, etc.).

Very cool indeed.

I'm now a Small Business owner. Sort of.

In less than an hour, I created a product and opened up an online store! I guess I'm a super-sucker for online marketing because while surfing for TwiCrack today, I finally went and clicked on one of those ubiquitous CafePress ads that seem to dominate so many of my Daily Dealers' websites.

What I didn't realize until now is how Twilight has fueled a whole cottage industry around fan-inspired Twilight merchandise. On CafePress, where you can set up your own shop for free, there are no fewer than 14,400 different fan-made designs available for sale. There was some really, really cool stuff on there, including some of my favorites:

By the way, the Twilight-oriented CafePress ad has even been showing up on my own blog via those Google ads, that are fueled by the content of the host site. It's semi-scary how Google is able to scan your content, and tailor marketing messaging accordingly. Because I use the word 'Addict' all over this blog to describe my Twilight 'Obsession', I've been getting lots o' ads for addiction rehabilitation services. Also, I've been getting links to Filipino dating sites, thanks to blogging about Fake Twilight.

Twilight is Recession-proof

This holiday season was filled with gloom & doom, with retail sales falling 8% in December through Christmas Eve.

However, Stephenie Meyer continues to help fuel the economy! In addition to helping to drive growth at Hot Topic, Stephenie has helped Amazon.com achieve its 'best ever Christmas'. In a recent press release, Amazon claimed that it "sold enough "Breaking Dawn" books that stacked end to end they would reach the summit of Mt. Everest eight times."

Ben Barnes too old to be Edward

I guess I'd always imagined Aro as some sort of gentle, papery-faced older man. So, when I first heard speculation that Ben Barnes wants in for New Moon, I was kind of surprised, though I suppose I can 'put up' with seeing his pretty mug on the big screen. Heh, yeah, I think that I can adjust!

Apparently, this is not the first time Ben considered being part of the Twilight movie series. Ben Barnes had some advice for Robert Pattinson on handling his new Twilight fame, and revealed his interest in Twilight:

"Actually, I know Rob a bit. He's from very close to where I lived. I used to sing with his sister at school weirdly. We used to do Soul nights. I think it's just about having confidence. The hardest thing is when you first start to do things like this (interviews). I'm not surprised if he was freaked out at Comic Con. It's having confidence that people are asking questions because they want to know the answers not because they're trying to 'get' you. If you can't think of an answer it's okay to say 'I don't know'. You don't have to be interesting and funny all the time. But I'm sure he has a much better handle on it than I do. I wanted to be in that Twilight film but I was too old (geez, he's only in his late 20's). There's no way I could look seventeen for the next three years. Tell Rob hi and good luck for me."

Twilight #2 for number of Movie Mistakes

With a total of 52 boo-boos, Twilight is second only to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in Movie Mistakes 2008 ranking.

I completely missed most of these snafus, including the following: Visible crew/equipment: Bella is sleeping and dreams about Edward for the first time, and she wakes up in shock and looks over and "thinks" she sees him. Then the camera is back on Bella, and you see the reflection of Edward walking out of the shot. (You see the light reflecting on Bella's face of Edward's shadow.)

Playing with dolls

After spending Christmas in Boston with my 'rents, hubby and I were planning to leave for Vancouver, Canada tonight for Part II of our second attempt at splitting-the-holidays-between-families-after-you've-gotten-married. Unfortunately, poor weather on the West coast has snowbound my in-laws and changed our plans.

Consequently, here I am, with a week off of work and no plans whatsoever. So, what productive, worthwhile thing did I do with all this afternoon off? Well, I made my own Robert Pattinson doll, thanks to Stardoll.com and a little bit of my own creativity!

Filipino Twilight a Hoax?

Could it be that all that hubbub around a Filipino TV-version of Twilight was just a hoax?

According to yehey.com's Buzzbox, the Twilight Pinoy remake may be an early April Fool's Day joke:

Save the effort and hate words, guys! Buzzbox clarified with ABS-CBN Corporate Communication Head Bong Osorio and after checking with ABS-CBN Television Head Cory Vidanes categorically stated: “There is no plan for ABS-CBN to remake ‘Twilight.’

Christmas TwiCrack

Merry Christmas! I hope that you all had a good one, and found some TwiCrack under your tree this year.

Here is what my little sister got for me from Hot Topic. I love how she indulges my obsessions.

Filipino Made-for-TV Twilight Series

Is this the new/second Edward?? I'm not seeing any bronze, tousled hair!

According to ABN-CBN news, Twilight fans in the Philippines will soon be enjoying a new Twilight TV series. Apparently, Twilight is going to be adapted for Filipino audiences. Here are some excerpts:

"Manila, Philippines (CNS) - Because it's so popular right now, the vampire flick "Twilight" is being adapted into a Philippine TV series, with teen stars Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao playing the lead parts.

The Stephenie Meyer novel has been bought by TV network ABS-CBN with Ignite Media for more than $1 million for the upcoming "fantaserye" show. The working is "Takipsilim," which is a tagalong word for twilight.
...
It has not been disclosed if the characters in the TV adaptation would be keeping their names as they would sound so westernized in the Philippine setting."

Perez Hilton
also reports that the Twilight fandom is bringing out their torches.

Personally, I think it's cool that Twilight is That. Freaking. Big. in the Philippines, don't you? Everybody has their own Twilight experience and vision, so why not? If it upsets you, then just don't watch it. Also, it's in tagalog, for pete's sake, so unless you speak that language and live in the Philippines, do you really care?

Celebrity Addictionary

I've added "TwiCrack" to E!Online's Celebrity Addictionary:

noun, Twilight-related news, information and memorabilia that fuels burning Twilight addictions for those who are High on Twi (-light, that is). Commonly injected by Twilight Junkies and those suffering from severe OCD (Obsessive Cullen Disorder).

What do you think? Help me make this definition better here.

I also learned some new words, including "nerd goggles", which is defined as metaphorical eyewear blinding the wearer to the utter suckiness of their favorite franchise ("Twilight," "Heroes," "Star Wars"). Yes, me-thinks I am guilty of wearing nerd goggles quite frequently.

Edit: As reported by His Golden Eyes (one of my favorite sources of TwiCrack), E!Online's word of the day is Pattronize. Apparently, it's a verb that means "to humor one's Twilight-obsessed friends" who are all gaga over grungy-hunk, sensitive-vampire-dude Robert Pattinson." Hmm...if only I could get my friends to Pattronize me. But they have never even heard of Robert Pattinson.

You know you're addicted to Twilight when...

...you sneak off to the movie theater to see Twilight the movie for the 3rd time by yourself, and don't tell your husband.

Yes, I did this in honor of 12/12/2008. And it felt great seeing the movie again in peace and quiet! Shh...

The first time I saw Twilight the movie, I dragged my dear husband with me. I was too busy comparing the movie to the book to absorb the show. The second time I went, I took my mom and my sister's uninitiated-with-Twilight boyfriend, who, much to my *chagrin*, provided his personal commentary and laughing track for the duration of the movie. Normally when people are talking throughout a show and distracting you, you can just ask for your money back. Unfortunately, in this case I was the one who brought him to the theater. (Note to sister's bf if you are reading this: Take no offense, but nobody cuts into my Twilight time! Grr...)

Well, the 3rd time was the charm. Twilight is like a fine wine; it gets better with age -- or in this case, with every additional viewing. Or maybe you just get numb to the movie's imperfections and unintentional-giggle-inducing moments. In any case, I'm running out of legitimate excuses to see Twilight again. *Sigh*

Twilight is a Silver Lining in Dark Holiday Shopping Season

While I'm a full-time TwiCrack Addict, I also have a side gig as a career chick with an MBA. So, I always take note when my interests and business background coincide.

According to the NY Times, vampires are breathing new life into the retail chain, Hot Topic:

"While sales at most stores plummeted last month, the teenage retailer Hot Topic enjoyed a 6.5 percent gain, thanks mostly to brisk sales of gear inspired by “Twilight,” the teenage vampire movie."

Now, if I could only get Santa to bring me this Stupid Lamb t-shirt, which I secretly want, for Christmas.

Just when I started to feel bad for Copon...

...I read this Just Jared article where Michael Copon highlights why he thinks his height and weight make him a better fit for Jacob than Taylor.

In the extended version of this interview, he goes on to confirm that he's a top contender for the role, and say that he's up for some Team Mike vs. Team Rob competition.

I think what irks me the most is that Michael Copon hasn't even bothered to READ New Moon yet, but he thinks he's a better fit for the role of Jacob. I'm starting to gravitate from Team Switzerland to Team Taylor (in the Michael vs. Taylor fight, of course. I will always be Team Edward!).

Furious Twilight Fans Cyber-attack Michael Copon

This is the kind of stuff that makes Twilight fans look like loonies.

Some fans are taking this whole Team Taylor campaign a wee bit too far by personally attacking Michael Copon, a contender for the role of Jacob Black in New Moon, by posting derogatory comments on his Facebook wall.

While I'm no fan of Copon (yet), he's not responsible in any way for the fact that Taylor Lautner is fighting to retain the part of Jacob. Summit studio holds all responsibility.

Yeah, maybe Copon came off as a little douche-y by proclaiming himself as the older Jacob Black on Facebook (see below), but who can blame a guy for pushing for this role of a lifetime? Fans are attacking the wrong party, if you ask me. Poor guy -- he's gonna need a big, fat endorsement from Stephenie Meyer to overcome fan wrath!

Meh. I'm Team Edward, so as long as Robert Pattinson returns, I don't really care who plays Jacob Black.

Obviously, you can see that it's a slow Twilight news day, which mirrors the laziness of day. Snow has been steadily blanketing our yard for the past 3 hours, but my husband and I are warm and toasty indoors. We're expecting quite a bit of snow here in the northeast!

Confessions of a Recovering Twilight Addict

How timely! I love this article by Kimberly Burger Capozzi that I found on Huffington Post. More evidence that I'm not alone in my post-teen obsession -- and that there is hope that I'll one day recover...

Rosario Dawson is a TwiCrack Addict too!

Apparently, Rosario is ditching her dad for Twilight this Christmas.

"I just read the first book, it's ridiculous, it's like crack cocaine. I read it for 10 hours straight until I finished it," Dawson, who will appear in Parts Per Billion with Twilight's vampire heartthrob Robert Pattinson, told PEOPLE at the Seven Pounds premiere in Hollywood Monday.

Now I can feel better about my addiction, since I'm not the only one!

Coming out of the closet

Today I read this article on Spying on Suburbia, and I think I found a kindred spirit! I have been guiltily addicted to the Twilight Saga ever since last spring, when a Time magazine article on Stephenie Meyer prompted me to pick up a copy of Twilight from the young adult section of my local Barnes & Noble. Soon thereafter, I devoured the rest of the series -- and became a total Twilight junkie.

My husband is starting to catch on to the magnitude of my TwiCrack addiction, only recently realizing that I've been re-reading the same dog-eared book with the Red Apple on the cover before I go to bed for months now. He let me drag him to Twilight the movie without complaint during opening weekend, and didn't say a word when he noticed that I replaced a vacation photo with Edward Cullen's face as my desktop background.

To my *chagrin* (only you Twilighters know what I'm talking about), most of my friends have never heard of Stephenie Meyer, so I have nobody to share my addiction with! I'm too embarrassed to reveal the depths of my obsession with a book series about a fictional vampire family to my friends, who feed their souls with Meet the Press, the Economist and the New York Times. Consequently, I've became enthralled with the world of Twilight. I haven't been this enthralled with anything like this since I was a teenager and obsessed with the New Kids on the Block. I guess I'm just a teeny bopper for life, trapped in the life of a happily married, working career gal.
