How cool is this? According to Canada.com, leading etymologists, grammarians and armchair language-lovers across Canada and the U.S. have been submitting nominations for the American Dialect Society's 19th annual Word of the Year competition, and Twi-hard is one of the nominees!Among Barrett's nominations are Twi-hard (rhymes with "die hard" and describes a fan of Stephenie Meyer's bestselling Twilight book series), words inspired by the micro-writing website Twitter (Tweet, Twitt, etc.) and frugalista (a person who is frugal but fashionable).
Other front-runners for Word of the Year include "change," "bailout," maverick," "vetting" and various combining forms of "Obama" (Obamanation, Obamamania, etc.).
Very cool indeed.
yay!
